Rabid Fox Found In Central Mass Prompts Potential Health Warning From Police

Authorities in one Central Massachusetts town are urging any concerned residents to contact health officials after a rabid fox was captured this week.

The fox, which tested positive for rabies, was found in the Lakewood Trail neighborhood of Sturbridge on Wednesday, April 19, according to Sturbridge Police on Facebook.

Police said the fox was first seen in the area on April 16, but could have been there longer. 

Anyone who believes that they came into direct contact with the fox is advised to call the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (MDPH) or their primary care provider. 

Anyone who believes that their pet came into direct contact with the fox is advised to call the Sturbridge Animal Control Officer or their veterinarian.
